Former Sindh Assembly speaker Agha Siraj Durrani has passed away at 72

According to the statement of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Pakistan People Party (PPP) leader Agha Siraj Durrani has passed away on Wednesday at the age of 72.
He added in his statement that Durrani was a sincere and loyal principled leader of the party, he played an important role in building up and stablishing democracy, he also visited the residence of late Agha Khan Durrani to offer condolences to his family. Accompanied by Minister Zia Lanjar, Saeed Ghani, Ismail Rahu, the CM said Agha Sb was distinguished politician, sincere friend and kind human being.
He will always be remembered because his services to the people of Sindh will never be forgotten, CM Shah also added.
A month ago Durrani was suffering from a brain hemorrhage and got admitted to a private hospital in Karachi, after staying in ICU the signs of improvement were showing, then he was discharged and move to his residence.
10 days ago he got readmitted to the hospital, his condition deteriorated again, and in Wednesday, doctors confirmed that he has passed.
Durrani was prominent figure in Sindh’s political landscape, with party affiliation spanning over four decades.
Durrani was born on 5 October,1953 in Shikharpur’s Gargi Yasin Tehsil, completed his matriculation from Karachi’s St.Patricks School in 1971 and later he received his Bachelor’s Degree of Commerce and his LLB degree from Sindh Muslim Law of Karachi.
He had served two consecutive terms as the Sindh Assembly speaker, from 2013-2018 and from 2018-2023
President Zardari expressed deep sorrow over Durrani’s passing. The president paid tribute to his political nd public services, nothing his role in building up democracy and serving the people of Sindh.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Shareef has also expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former speaker and offered prayer for his departed soul. He noted that Durrani had rendered services as speaker of the Sindh Assembly and that his contributions to politics and public welfare would never be forgotten.
PPP Chairman Bilalwal Bhutto Zardari paid a rich tribute to Durrani’s political and public services, he called him a symbol of patience and composure. He also offered prayer for departed soul of Durrani and for the patience for the bereaved family.
Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjel Inam Memon also expressed grief over Durrani’s demise, he described Durrani as a dignified, loyal and seasoned politician who devoted his life to serving the people of the province, he also added that Agha Siraj Durrani was not only a devoted worker of PPP but also a champion of democratic traditions. His entire life was spent in the struggle for public service, democratic supremacy, and the rights of the people.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab led the tributes to the late former Sindh Assembly Speaker, Agha Siraj Durrani, expressing his deep anguish at the loss. Wahab characterized Durrani as a principled figure whose legacy of political sagacity and committed public service will resonate for generations. Offering his spiritual homage, the Mayor prayed for the highest ranks in Jannat-ul-Firdous for the departed soul and extended his prayers for strength and fortitude to the bereaved family, assuring them of his full support during their period of mourning.
