PIMS Doctor Shares Details of Imran Khan’s Health

Summary of Story

  • Doctor says Imran had 20-min eye surgery at Pims.
  • Says Central Retinal Vein Occlusion was diagnosed in his right eye.
  • Imran discharged after successful treatment, says senior doctor.

Days after news about former premier Imran Khan’s health shocked his party members, a senior doctor has now confirmed that he had a medical checkup of his right eye, with doctors confirming that the pressure in the blood vessels damaged his eyes.

The medical test was conducted at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad.

In a video message posted late on Friday, the hospital’s Executive Director, Dr Rana Imran Sikandar, said a team of senior doctors had evaluated Imran’s health before discharging him. He said that the temporary effect of his eyesight was due to the increased pressure in the vessels of his right eye.

Talking about the medical treatment, Dr Sikandar said that Imran had undergone a specialized medical procedure after the doctors diagnosed him with a condition related to the vision in his right eye.

The PTI founder had complained about his decreased eyesight in the right eye, leading to a comprehensive medical checkup, said Dr Sikandar. He said that a senior doctor had first examined Imran at Adiala Jail and then advised him to get further checked at the hospital.

A number of tests were conducted on Imran, including a slit lamp examination, fundoscopy, measurement of intraocular pressure, and an optical coherence tomography scan of the retina.

Doctors found that the former premier was suffering from central retinal vein occlusion, which is caused by pressure exerted on the blood flowing in the retina. The doctors advised immediate treatment under the supervision of specialists, he added.

On the advice of the doctors, he was shifted to the PIMS hospital late at night between Saturday and Sunday for the treatment, as advised by Dr Sikandar.

He further said that the former premier was fully informed about his condition and the treatment, and consent was taken from him in writing.

Dr Sikandar said that the surgery was conducted in a clean operating theater and was successfully completed in 20 minutes. The vital signs of the patient were stable throughout the treatment, he said.

After the surgery, Imran was discharged from the hospital along with medical advice and necessary documents.

PTI Holds Sit-In at Supreme Court

The medical update comes after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) held a sit-in outside the Supreme Court yesterday, demanding a meeting with the jailed party founder and information about his health status.

The medical update comes after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) held a sit-in outside the Supreme Court yesterday, demanding a meeting with the jailed party founder and information about his health status.

The PTI leaders had requested that the party founder be allowed to meet with his family and personal physicians to assess his health status, as he was reportedly taken to the hospital from Adiala Jail for medical assessment.

After the sit-in and a meeting with the Chief Justice of Pakistan, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said that Imran’s family will be given his medical report.

Talking to the media, he said that the party was satisfied after an intense day of negotiations that it would be given a medical report for the party’s founder.

He, however, said that the achievement was “not entirely satisfactory,” adding that the party fought a “moral case” outside the court.

After getting the assurance, the party ended its sit-in outside the top court.

The PTI secretary general also revealed that he had held several meetings with CJP Yahya Afridi and the Attorney General for Pakistan to raise concerns about the PTI founder.

Raja said that getting the report was not the only goal, and he continued to make efforts to ensure that Imran meets his family and associates.

‘PIMS VISIT’

Reports of Imran’s brief hospital visit began to surface on Wednesday, with PTI raising concerns about the former premier’s health.

According to local media, the PTI founder underwent treatment for an eye infection on Saturday and was subsequently shifted back to Adiala Jail the next day.

In response to the news, PTI Chief Barrister Gohar Khan said he had received reports of an eye infection from the media, while Imran’s sister, Noreen Khan, denied the reports, stating that Imran was in good health and had no eye issues.
